English Translation of the Ten point pledge made by JHU members at the Sri Dalada Maligawa.

(1) To preserve the territorial integration and national integrity with the same self-sacrificial commitment as was done in the past

(2) To observe the five precepts both in private and social life, carry forward the historical responsibility of safeguarding Buddha Sasana and working towards the enhancement of Sasana placing it before own life

(3) To mete out equal treatment to people belong to other faiths and communities, as per the Buddhist concept of equality

(4) To defeat anti-social elements that surface in the form of terrorism, extremism, separatism and brutalism

(5) To carry forward the Ahimsa and egalitarian traditions as people’s representatives by adopting a tolerant attitude towards dissent and making an attempt to muster a grand consensus above party politics

(6) To denounce fraud, corruption and misappropriation of funds and abstain from using materials and services acquired through such inappropriate means

(7) To follow the foot steps of the Great Environmentalist ever, the Buddha and consider ourselves as custodians and not the owners natural resources, to commit ourselves for the protection of environment both in principle and practice and to refrain from any activity that would contribute towards environment pollution

(8) To reject alcohol, cigarettes, addictive drugs and gambling outright

(9) To resist opportunistic power-centric politics without principles and values, and to take national interest as prime concern in the decision making process

(10) To convert parliament to a place of educated, mature and honourable persons.
